Today, My favourite Colour is Green..

fields, Green thumb, apples

Whenever we go on our pilgrimages I get lost in green.

I am talking about the variant hues  or shades of green . The endless stretches of fields wear an unlimited range of this colour. The trees on the mountains display  leaves of different green. At times the rivers, ponds and lakes reflect the  green …… from light green to moss green. A  riot of green as you travel along the countryside or mountainside. It cools the eyes. Calms the  nerves. Creates inexplicable enthusiasm in the  heart.

God seems to have an unlimited range of Green in His palette and His magical  brush paints scintillating  hues everywhere.

Looks like my grey cells have given me the green signal to go ahead with my words. I love all shades of green except gaudy shades of the colour like the Parrot-green which looks lovely only on parrots!!

Some have green fingers  and every seed / sapling they plant grow well.

Some people refer to this as green thumb .

Russel Page, a British Landscape Artist and  Garden Designer says, “Green fingers are the extension of a verdant heart.”

A  green light is anticipated to go ahead with one’s schemes- like the light at traffic signal

A few days back I did make some green pepper pickle. It has great taste and is very good for health.

Green tea is a rage these days and we get this in various flavours ( I love the orange, strawberry  and cinnamon ones). It is supposed to be packed with  goodness.)

A  person green with envy is also said to be smitten with the green eyed monster –jealousy.

I never knew that  dollars were also called Greenbacks.

A spring onion is called Green onion.

Some events remain green ( fresh ) in our memory.

I have seen a  few Green houses   with lovely plants inside.

To be in the  cozy Green Room in  our college auditorium used to be exciting as we would sit munching pakoras and samosas gingerly without damaging the make-up – waiting for our call to go on the stage. What fun filled days those used to be!! I can still recall the lines from Shakespeare as I played the role of Portia in the Merchant of Venice.

Greenhorns – there are quite a few of them in dynasty politics these days who put their feet in their mouths with their absurd statements!!

Green wood –  still young – not aged.

Grass is always green on the other side – a proverb(referred to as Akkara pachchai in Tamil and Malayalam).

To search for greener  pastures – seek something that gives you better fortune.

Green  around the gills –looking pale and sticky.

Green tourism or eco tourism is the byword these days. Go Green….

One has to go through the Green channel, when there is  nothing taxable to declare.

Green ink is used by many PSU staff – especially in the Inspection & Audit departments.

Green ink is also used in drawing maps.

Till quite some time back, the shop keepers who dealt in fruits, vegetables and other grocery items, were called Green Grocers.

We have the Green Peace Movement for environmental protection.

Some animals have Green blood.

Green Spot is a non-carbonated  non caffeinated orange based soft drink sold in Venezuela,Thailand and other South East Asian countries . Funny it should be called Green !! Like our own Gold Spot which had no Gold  in it!!

Green Spot Whiskey is an Irish Pot Still whiskey.

Green belt…..a movement to retain agricultural and fertile lands founded by 2004 Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai.

Green Is The Colour ” is a very popular number sung by Pink Floyd.

Green- represents in Ireland- the vast green hillside as well as Ireland’s patron saint St. Patri

“ Roman Catholics and more traditional protestant clergy wear green vestments…..”

Green is associated so much with Christmas…the Holly, the Ever Green Christmas Trees.

In the story, the Wizard of Oz, there is this Emerald City where everyone wears tinted glasses so that everything looks green.

The colour of the Anahata Chakra is symbolized as green.

Green stuff —-money (too Green).

In Golf, the region of grass around the hole is trimmed short and referred to as the putting green  or simply the Green.

“ A hedge between, keeps friendship Green.”

(Your friendship will flourish if you and your friend respect each other’s privacy.)

Green comes in various shades –

“ apple, aquamarine, beryl ( gem stone ),  chartfreuse  (a liquor made in France – with a colour that is midway between green and yellow),emerald, fir, forest, grass, green jade, lawn green, leaf  green, lime, mint, moss, olive, pea green,  pine, sage, sap, sea green , sea foam, spring gren and viridian.”

To quote John Milton, “A man that studieth revenge keeps his own wounds green which otherwise would heal and do well.”

“With warming and cooling effect, the green colour denotes balance, harmony and stability.”

Green is the feng shui colour of renewal, fresh energy and new beginnings.”

Green is associated with healing. I have seen ward boys / Doctors / nurses donning green dresses in many hospitals. In some rooms here even the walls are painted green. This is said to repel mosquitos.

Green Card holder in U S denotes a Lawful Permanent Resident.

Well. There may be many more Green related things. But I better wind up before my friends start tut tut tut- ing…   “This blog  becoming  dull, grey and boring.”

Well, I don’t find grey dull and boring. I love those heavy rain laden grey clouds !!

Bye…

till the next Colour Bug bites me

You have left little for anyone else to add to. It must be the most favorite colour of the God or how else can you justify, the world filled with so much of it. As a woman you can appreciate it more than us men because women are blessed with the ability of differentiating even slight differences in shades of the colours which we men can’t. Out of many phrases that exist in English using the word green, Green with envy seems very odd to me. I don’t know how it came in to use but it’s not right. Green is also the colour of Islam but in the present scenario it appears to be contradictory to the ‘ideology’ of the militant Islam at least if its proponents can be said to having any.

That is the lamest justification that one can read or give. Bile itself is not green and skin colour does turn paler or pink or blue which is not a good sign but never heard of it turning green, unless you take in to account the British now turning green on seeing India’s progress 🙂

I have approved it 🙂 Maybe because of the length of the comment it might have switched the “approval” switch. I don’t know, but I think so, otherwise other comments don’t need to be approved. We will let that feature be as it is. I am around 🙂

Hello Suresh ji and Usha ji, I have tried the “Forum” section too. Where one can put the short news clipping or a small quick thought that occurs to one for starting a discussion on the side. You can try that and let me know if you want some addition/improvement in that feature.
