How are President and Vice President picked in India?

NEW DELHI: Months before elections for the President and Vice President, murmurs within the opposition camp suggest that a contest is certain, unless the ruling NDA comes up with a surprise candidature that puts the opposition parties in a fix.

Currently short of the numbers it needs to win a majority to pick the next President and Vice-President of India, the NDA has a clear advantage and is expected to comfortably bridge the number gap with support from the Biju Janata Dal and YSR Congress, the two friendly parties that also voted in favour of President Ram Nath Kovind in 2017.
