Physician of Indian-American/British origin, Dr Vivek Murthy is expected to co-chair the coronavirus task force which President-elect Joe Biden is likely to announce on Monday.

Dr Murthy, 43, originally hails from Karnataka; he was appointed America’s 19th Surgeon General by then-president Barack Obama in 2014. He is an articulate speaker whose parents are of Indian origin and he is an outstanding physician in America.

Vivek was born in the UK and he was the youngest ever to hold the office at the age of 37. Ironically, he was later asked to step down by the Trump administration (!)

Biden, in his victory speech in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday night, said that On Monday, He will name a group of leading scientists and experts as Transition Advisors to help take the Biden-Harris Covid plan and convert it into an action blueprint that starts on January 20th, 2021.

“The task force… could begin meeting within days,” the daily said. In his victory speech, Biden said that the plan will be built on a bedrock of science. “It will be constructed out of compassion, empathy, and concern. I will spare no effort — or commitment — to turn this pandemic around,” Biden said.

During the campaign period, Dr Murthy emerged as one of the top advisors of Biden on public health and coronavirus issues. Many believe that he might end up being the Health Secretary in the Biden administration.

In May, the Biden Campaign appointed congresswoman Pramila Jayapal and Murthy as co-chairs to the Healthcare Task Force.

Murthy said in an interview that Joe Biden is the kind of guy he would love to bring home to have dinner with his mom and dad and would serve homemade “Masala Dosa”. “He’s authentic as well as real. He says what he thinks that’s something I really love about him… He says what’s on his mind. He’s honest and true,” Murthy said.

Biden, he said, is a man who generally meets with his values, and those values are so reliably centered around generosity and community.“It’s who he is,” Murthy said.

I think Trump has strong racial discrimination at the back of his mind. His political compulsions might have compelled him to say a few words of praise for Modi but there too his racism stood out. Let’s see how Biden turns out to be for India. I have my reservations because of his pro-Pak stand and his equation with George Soros.
