Chemicals of Happiness
Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin & Endorphins are the four chemicals released in our brain that affect happiness. A fair dose of DOSE daily can keep us happy always.
Dopamine is the kindness chemical released whenever we accomplish a task or goal. Acts of kindness towards others make their natural release. So we need to be empathetic and compassionate to others and help others.
Oxytocin is the relationship chemical as it is primarily associated with close relationships, loving touch, etc. It also reduces anxiety by triggering dopamine and serotonin. Cuddling our loved ones can make our dose of oxytocin.
Serotonin is the exercise chemical and the best-known among the happiness chemicals. It gets released when exposed to bright light when we do exercise and revive old happy thoughts. A short walk in the sunshine can give us serotonin.
Endorphins are the natural chemical released by the central nervous system to mitigate our physical pain. Doing both aerobic and anaerobic exercise can induce its release.

Serotonin is the most needed Chemical today!! We sit in A /C rooms, travel in A /C cars and visit A /C shops!! Exposure to sunshine ( esp. after the pandemic when children are cooped up in homes with online classes and don’t go out to lay!! )
The Doctors advice us to take Vitamin D..ah!! This could easily be supplemented by exposure to sunlight!!
Very interesting. There’s a very delicate balance in the production of every chemical in our body. How well or little do we understand this wonder machine? A little imbalance can cause serious problems. Serotonin imbalance in women is said to cause mood swings and the desire to eat sugar. Though we have made big strides in knowing the complexities of the human-machine, still how little we know about it. The researchers come out with chemical formulas to suppress or increase the production of those chemicals, but is it all that simple? There are no quick fixes for imbalances of this wonderful machine.
