Forty years ago (I was a young bachelor then) once roaming around in the back street of Ballard Pier (Bombay then, now Mumbai) at six in the evening, I saw one young woman running to get in the bus. She was wearing a maroon saree and was around 25~30 years old. When I came back on the ship, I wrote this poem.
As these days, I am compiling my work, I came across this and thought of posting it here.
I had named her Nirmalaa. She can have any name, but she is the face of those thousands of those faceless women going through a similar daily grind.
